Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
