Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the attack left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
